Curb Side Find

OMG.....I was driving down my road and lo' and behold I saw this sitting on the curb, with a sign taped to it that said FREE! Holy Moses! Free, really....it must be my lucky day!

Anywho, I knocked on the door and told that wonderful person that I would take this beast off their hands. She was very thankful! So being solid oak, it was pretty dang heavy. And this beast is in near perfect condition! SCORE! It's that typical honey oak stain, insert a gag sound....... but I figured with a little sanding and some love it would be beautiful!

So my blog land friends I am asking for input on this one! Please any ideas on what kind of transformation I should do is most welcome!  ****Candie****

Before and After Dresser Redo

I inherited this dresser from my husband's grandmother. We actually had it as our dresser in our previous house before I bought my fab- 9 drawer dresser from Costco! So off to storage it went, till the yard sale.  At that point, I decided I was going to just redo the dresser for my middle son's new room.  So for a year now since we moved it's been sitting in the garage. Again, naughty mommy!

Well here is the after:

So here's the low down.  I removed the ugly wood pull knobs (if you call it that) I sanded the dresser enough to scuff it up.  Added a coat of Behr interior primer and sealer (purple can). I then used the same green paint (Disney Alien Green) I used on the walls to basically outline the dresser.  Used Rustoleaum Painter's Touch gloss white for the remainder of the dresser.

Knobs I found at Hobby Lobby for 50% off! YAY!!!

Lined the inside of the drawer with shelf liner contact paper. You can't really tell, but the contact paper is lime green, yellow and white.  Matches everything perfectly!

Anyway, it took me about a week to do, and my son was super excited to get it up in his room.  Stay tuned for the before and after of his room.  Just a few more finishing touches and I will post!

Letter "K"

It's been a year since we moved into our new house.  And all year my 4yr old has been asking "mommy when are you going to finish my room".  Poor guy! I did my oldest son's room a month or so after we moved in, sorry no pictures.  It was before we started blogging.  Anyway, I kept telling him, his was next, but I would start other projects. Naughty mommy!!!  So I have started his room, it is almost finished and I will be blogging about a few items that I made or redid.  So stay tuned for his dresser transformation and the big before and after room reveal.

But for now a little wall art I made out of a piece of scrap plywood that I had.

From this angle you really can't tell that it's a board, looks more like I painted a blue rectangle on the wall.  But I promise I did use a board.  FYI- My son picked out the colors of his room.  Will let you know the colors when I do the big reveal.

To cover the sides of the board, I found this Toy Story ribbon.  It matched perfectly!

So there you have it! Cheap, but not cheap looking wall art!  ****Candie****

The Gray's Garden

This year we planted a little early, APRIL, but my business tends to pick up in the spring so we jumped at the chance when we had a free weekend. As I have said before my garden last year was a total disaster. My Husband and oldest son cannot be trusted unless supervised. Our garden is on the side of our home so we are a little limited in space. This year we planted carrots, red and white onions, jalapenos, tomatoes, garlic, broccoli, cucumber, strawberries, and blackberries. I want to freeze tomato sauce and make freezer jam with the berries. We'll see. Here are the before pics:

I would have more strawberries, but my boys keep sneaking in and eating them. :)

Faux Chenille Blanket

This is by far my favorite blanket I have made yet. It is also the blanket that took me the longest. There is a great tutorial here. It is 4 different colors of fabric each about a yard a piece. They are then sewed together in a straight line over and over again. Quite time consuming when you have two little ones. I cant wait to make another one! Don't forget to sign up for our giveaway.

Plastic Planter Pot, To Something....well a complete fail

So I was at Walmart the other day and spotted this planter pot.

Got it for $8 and was just what I was looking for.  My poor plant had by far outgrown it's other pot.  Anyway, I got it home and replanted my plant.

Boring........ to plain!  Not to mention so much green! So I thought I'll dress it up by putting blue and brown lines around it.  Well, of course this is not so easy since I already put the darn plant in it, but I tried.  Taping this off....well, didn't work real well, so in the end I ended up putting a wavy line at the bottom with circles.  Not what I was envisioning, but I guess it works for now. At least it's got color, right?!?!?

Ya, ya, I know your thinking that stinks doesn't look that cool.  Well I agree, but since it was my latest project and a complete fail, I thought I'd share.  I'm not embarrassed!****Candie****

Cabinet Door to Laundry Room Decor

Hello all!  Just wanted to share with you this fab creation I did awhile back and keep forgetting to post about.  I picked this cabinet door up from our local Habitat for Humanity Store.  I decided it would look great with a few coats of paint some vinyl and of course hanging in my laundry room.

Media Shelves

So if you any of you have little ones.....well then we know that our little ones can't seem to keep there fingers off the media center. ie......Direct tv box, PS3......etc......

Here's a before, and of course I removed all but the Direct tv box.......see just at eye level for little fingers!

I decided to make some shelves from some scrap wood that my dad gave me.  I needed badly to rip some 1 1/2 inch facing strips.....well I don't have a table saw......think, think....what can I do!! (insert light bulb) I will just use my circular saw.  Well it worked, my edges were a little rough, but nothing a little sand paper couldn't fix.

Next came the design.  Since eventually my wall are going to be Behr French Silver, and I'm going to be doing black, silver and some pop of color, I decided to paint the shelves black with silver lines thru it.

Primer coat, tape out my lines for the silver.

I started the painting process, removed the tape to insert the metallic silver.  And stop, dead in my tracks!  What was I thinking, duh....I should of started with the silver first! Oh well, lesson learned!

So after all the painting, about 3 coats of each paint, they were finally ready to hang.

Aren't they a beauty!

Sorry about the bare left side of the top shelf.  My Direct tv box is supposed to be there.  Cable cord was too short.  And eventually I will drill a hole thru the shelves to insert all the cable and wire running down.  Just needed to get them out of eye level for now.

Total cost of project:
Wood - Free
Paint - $1.29 Silver, already had black and primer
Metal brackets holding shelves - $15.00 for all 4 (hobby lobby 1/2 off!!!)

Master Bath Rustoleum Cabinet Transformation

So I tried out the Rustoleum Cabinet Transformation kit in Espresso, and I love it!! It was very time consuming but there was no sanding whatsoever!! You apply the liquid de-glosser, color, glaze & top/finish coat, couldn't ask for anything easier...the hardest part is waiting the alotted dry time, haha!! Take a look for yourself, what do you think? Still undecided about hardwarde, any thoughts?

Unfortunately the lighting wasn't the greatest, ugh!!sorry about the glare. I can't get a straight on shot because there isn't enough room between the cabinets and the wall behind, such is life.

Easy Herb Garden

I found some cute pots in the dollar section at Target and bought a bunch. I knew I could find many different ways to use these. So my first way was to plant my herbs in the them. Last year I had a tiny baby when it was time to plant the garden, so it was left up to my husband and eldest. I swear my husband let my son open the packets and spin because I had plants everywhere! I thought this year I would be a little more organized. I will post a picture of my fully planted garden next week. I decided to plant the herbs inside this year. It is so much easier to have easy access to them when I need them in the kitchen. Here is what I did.  I first taped a rectangle in approx. the middle of the pot with painters tape.

Then I applied a few coats of chalkboard paint.

I then, of course, planted my herbs. Cilantro, chives and parsley. These are the three that I use the most.

I just saw this morning that I already have gowth!!!

Old House Master Bathroom Before and After

Hello all!  This post is from my old house before we moved, and way before this blog was started.  So bare with me on the before pictures.
We decided we wanted to update our old bathroom to something a little more......well....us!  The whole drop in sink with chrome and brass faucet was just not doing it for me anymore, after 5 yrs!  Wow, can't believe it took that long to get to it.  Anyway, when I finally told convinced the husband that this needed to be done, this sink was starting to gross me out....well.....need I say more...

Notice the hole on the left side...no cabinet. Also my father the carpenter that he is built the new door and fake drawer fronts.  Old one used to look like the ugly long cabinet.

So we had my dad build a new bank of drawers. My husband and I installed the granite tile and backsplash. Installed new sink and nickel finish faucet and new hardware.  Darn me for not getting a picture of the new light fixture.  It too is nickel finish, much better than the sassy brassy light fixture from before.  Anyway, I thought it turned out fabulous, had so much more counter space.  And guess what...we ended up putting our house on the market within the month of finishing it.  So needless to say I didn't get to enjoy it for long.    ******Candie******

Wood Baby Wall Hanging

I saw this idea at a craft store about 18 months ago, and thought it would be totally cute for my newborns room (now 18months) and so much cheaper to make. So I made these wall hangings, and after much deliberation I decided to go ahead and sell them at our shop.
Simply made from a few pieces of wood, paint, vinyl and ribbon and you have a super cute decoration for your babies room!
